China Deploys 11 J-20 Stealth Fighters Near Indian Border, Reports Say

China has reportedly deployed at least 11 J-20 fifth-generation stealth fighter jets to two high-altitude air bases near the Indian border, marking the largest known concentration of the aircraft opposite India to date.

According to reports by NDTV and Clash Report, the deployment includes seven J-20 stealth fighters at Hotan Air Base in Xinjiang and four at Damxung Air Base in Tibet. The move is seen as a significant enhancement of China's air power along the disputed border with India.

The J-20, developed by China's Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, is Beijing's premier fifth-generation stealth fighter. It is designed for long-range air superiority, advanced surveillance, and precision strike missions while reducing detection by enemy radar systems.

The reported deployment has renewed attention on India's air combat capabilities. At present, the Indian Air Force (IAF) does not operate a fifth-generation fighter aircraft. Its frontline fleet includes 36 Dassault Rafale fighter jets, supported by a larger number of Su-30MKI multirole fighters, many of which have been in service for years and continue to undergo upgrades.

Defence analysts say the growing military presence on both sides of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) reflects the strategic importance of the region. However, the reported deployment does not necessarily indicate an imminent conflict and may also serve as part of China's broader military posture and readiness.

The development comes amid continuing efforts by both India and China to strengthen their military infrastructure and capabilities along the Himalayan frontier while maintaining diplomatic and military dialogue to manage border tensions.
